Choosing your karategi
The karategi consists of 3 elements: a double-breasted jacket (uwagi), pants (zubon) and a belt (obi). Usually white, it can also be available in black or blue. Choosing the right kimono for your style is essential. For sparring, you'll prefer a light kimono, while for training (especially katas) you'll prefer a heavier model. There are also multi-purpose kimonos that allow you to find the perfect compromise so that you feel comfortable in all circumstances. It's worth noting that 100% cotton kimonos are the heaviest, while those made from synthetic materials promote fluidity of movement.

Differentiating between karate-gi and judo kimonos
All traditional Japanese clothing is called a kimono. In martial arts, this term refers to the official outfit (jacket, pants, belt) worn by the fighter. Lighter and more breathable, the karategi is designed to give the karateka a wide range of movement. The judogi, on the other hand, is very resistant, as it must withstand the pulls of the opponent without tearing. So, even if you're already equipped for judo, it's a good idea to buy a karate-gi.
Taking good care of your karate-gi kimono
Kimono care is essential to ensure longevity. A few simple rules will keep your outfit in perfect condition. For example, wash your kimono regularly and never use bleach to bleach it, even if it's stained. Instead, machine-wash immediately with a suitable detergent.
