Julien Caffaro has been a karateka since childhood.

He started karate at the age of 6 to channel his “slightly overflowing energy”, as he puts it, “and to follow in my father’s footsteps, who was a former karateka”.

Julien made his first national podium in 2013 at the French Cup, where he lost in the final to Davy Dona.

Then, in the same year, he finished second in the French Espoirs Championships.

That year, he was called up to the French national team for the first time, where he was selected for the European Espoirs Championships. The young man finished third in Lisbon, losing at the last second by disqualification to the Kosovar Alvin, who is now a member of his SPN Karate Vernon team.

Julien Caffaro was almost certain to leave for the World Championships, but he injured his knee during a France grouping.

Ruptured cruciate and external ligament plus torn tendon, the surgeon tells his coach that he has a one-in-ten chance of returning to competition.

He was forced to put his career on hold for intensive rehabilitation at Cap Breton, a center for top-level athletes.

After a 1-year break, a lot of doubts and a lot of hard work, Julien Caffaro made his return to the German K1, where he finished third.

I finished third at the Paris Open and was selected for the European team championships in Kocaeli, where I was European vice-champion with Equipe de France”, he recounts.

The title continues in 2019 for this fighting karateka. In 2019, in Marseille, he is crowned French champion.

“A title I’ve wanted for so many years,” he declares, not without pride.

Julien is currently in the qualification phase for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He is traveling the world to score points.

At the same time, he gives karate lessons in local schools, and also teaches in a club.

Apart from karate, Julien enjoys extreme sports, travel, music and shooting sports.
